George (The Series)

Based on the feature film, "George" this Canadian production was shot entirely in Switzerland with its home set located in the town of Grindelwald. It continues the story of a "citified", 250 lb. St. Bernard whose former address was 5th Avenue, New York. Starring Marshall Thompson as an Air Canada pilot living in the Swiss Alps, Jack Mullany as Thompson's best friend and sidekick, Walter, Trudy Young as Helga, Erna Sellmer as Frau Gerber the Nanny, Volker Stewart as the young boy, Freddie and the incomparable George played by Monk, a very lovable actor and substantial St. Bernard dog. The show chronicles George's attempt to become a real dog instead of a pampered pet. Jim's sister had owned George until she met her globe trotting fiancée- so George was sent to Switzerland where St. Bernard's save people not create havoc. The only grass George had ever seen was in Central Park - so the sight gags alone are a riot to watch. The show is filled with heartwarming antics and considerable adventure stories of life in the Swiss Alps. The series played all over Europe and Canada but never made it to American television, which is a shame!
